This past Thursday, the Alabama Wildlife Federation (AWF) Covington County Wild Game Cook-Off was on fire; with close to 375 members and guests in attendance! An aroma of mouthwatering dishes filled the air as cook teams fired up their grills at the Covington Center Arena in Andalusia; preparing various mouthwatering dishes like Crab-Stuffed Shrimp, Quail Hot Tacos and Rabbit Sauce Piquant.
 
Smokin Ashes captured the top prize of "Best Overall," with their delicious Turkey Tots with Taco Sauce. Smokin Ashes consisting of Davey Sightler, Addie Sightler, Gage Sightler and Jaylee Spicer will be invited to the state finals held at Lanark in Millbrook on August 4, 2018 to compete for the title of AWF 2018 Wild Game Cook-Off State Champion. Other winners included:

Fish Division: First Place – Covey Down Gang consisting of Robin Wiggins, Josh O’Ferrell, Kyle Marshall and Jennifer McClung cooking Crab-Stuffed Shrimp; Second Place – Ken’s Kookers cooking Everything But The Kitchen Sink Gumbo; Third Place – Smokin’ Ashes consisting of Davey Sightler, Addie Sightler, Gage Sightler and Jaylee Spicer cooking Seaside Mac N Cheese.

Fowl Division: First Place – Smokin’ Ashes consisting of Davey Sightler, Addie Sightler, Gage Sightler and Jaylee Spicer cooking Turkey Tots w/ Taco Sauce; Second Place – PowerSouth consisting of Anna Copeland, Dustin Kilcrease, Wes Pearce and Stevie Anderson cooking Bang Bang Turkey Bites; Third Place – Southeast Gas consisting of Will Bumpers and Beverly Jaynes cooking Quail Hot Tacos.

Game Division: First Place – PowerSouth consisting of Anna Copeland, Dustin Kilcrease, Wes Pearce and Stevie Anderson cooking Rabbit Sauce Piquant; Second Place – Dead Run consisting of Daniel Jones, Stetson Sasser, Barney Brunson and Mike Brunson cooking Deer Stew; Third Place – Smokin’ Ashes consisting of Davey Sightler, Addie Sightler, Gage Sightler and Jaylee Spicer cooking Southwestern Venison Stew.

Best Presentation went to Team Advantage, while the Covey Down Gang won Best Presentation Runner-Up.

In addition to the great food, there was a silent auction, raffle and entertainment.
