Hickory Barn BBQ Win Best Overall at Limestone County Wild Game Cook-Off

Rogue Bayou Gator & Rice, Quail Poppers and Venison Manicotti with Alfredo Sauce were just a few of the tasty dishes found at the Alabama Wildlife Federation Wild Game Cook-Off and Silent Auction last Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at the Canebrake Club in Athens, Alabama! With 22 cook teams and over 500 members and guests in attendance, Hickory Barn BBQ including Bill Davis, Mary Shafer and Justin Pucket captured the top prize of "Best Overall," with their scrumptious Fun Fettie. Hickory Barn BBQ will be invited to the state finals held at Lanark in Millbrook in August 8, 2015 to compete for the title of AWF 2015 Wild Game Cook-Off State Champion. 
 
 
While Hickory Barn BBQ won Best Overall, they certainly weren’t the only team serving up good food at the event. Other winners included:
 
Fish Division: First Place – Bushwakers including Joe Wissman and Steven Hoyt cooking Rogue Bayou Gator & Rice; Second Place – Hickory Barn BBQ including Bill Davis, Mary Shafer and Justin Pucket cooking Cajun Cat & Grits; Third Place – Big Hawg including Colby Medlen, Mike Medlen, Joey Jackson and Mike King cooking Crappie Delight.
 
Fowl Division: First Place – Ren Hen including Dan Nelson, Gwen Nelson and Matt Nelson cooking Quail Poppers; Second Place – East Limestone Porkers including Chad Drake, Eric Johnson and Matt Thomas cooking Flamming Wild Turkey; Third Place – Hickory Barn BBQ including Bill Davis, Mary Shafer and Justin Pucket cooking Whole Wild Turkey.
 
Game Division: First Place – Hickory Barn BBQ including Bill Davis, Mary Shafer and Justin Pucket cooking Fun Fettie; Second Place – Killin’ Time including George Downs, Mike Royster, Tommy Downs and David Pugh cooking Venison Manicottie with Alfredo Sauce; Third Place – Veni-Swine including DeWitt Burns, Buck Wilson, David Hunt and Jim Agee cooking Veni-Swine Jambalaya.
 
Pot Luck Division: First Place – Kimoki including Michelle Merchant, Jason Strayhorn, Tracy Strayhorn and Ashley Merchant cooking Meat Wise Brunswick Stew; Second Place – DDT including Danny Crawford, Phillip Dean, Sanders Woodroof and Joel Chisholm cooking DDT Chili.
 
Youth Division: First Place – Kiroll including Kindall Merchant, Leanne Merchant, Kala Nelson cooking This Little Piggy Loves Beans, Beans, Beans.
 
The People’s Choice Award sponsored by Bear Defense went to Big Hawg including Colby Medlen, Mike Medlen, Joey Jackson and Mike King. Best Presentation Award went to Hickory Barn BBQ and Presentation Runner-Up Award went to Village Idiots.
