Backwater BBQ Wins Best Overall at Madison County Wild Game Cook-Off

Parmesan Crusted Snapper, Zoe's Quail Gumbo and Capocollo Deer Sliders were just a few of the tasty dishes found at the Alabama Wildlife Federation / Alabama Army National Guard Madison County Wild Game Cook-Off and Silent Auction last Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the Jaycee Community Building in Huntsville, Alabama! With approximately 200 members and guests in attendance, Backwater BBQ including Jim Ruple, Blake Dorning and Wade Thompson captured the top prize of "Best Overall," with their scrumptious Elk Roll-Ups.
While Backwater BBQ won Best Overall, they certainly weren’t the only team serving up good food at the event. Other winners included:
Fish Division: First Place – Flying High Cookers including Harry Garber, Dave Ryals and Jerry Holland cooking Parmesan Crusted Snapper; Second Place – Backwater BBQ including Jim Ruple, Blake Dorning and Wade Thompson cooking Crappie Cakes.
Fowl Division: First Place – Zoe's Team including Zoe Waltz and Corey Waltz cooking Zoe's Quail Gumbo; Second Place – Flying High Cookers including Harry Garber, Dave Ryals and Jerry Holland cooking Duck Gumbo; Third Place – Backwater BBQ including Jim Ruple, Blake Dorning and Wade Thompson cooking Quail Dumpling.
Game Division: First Place – Backwater BBQ including Jim Ruple, Blake Dorning and Wade Thompson cooking Elk Roll-Ups; Second Place – Bootlegg BBQ including Mike and Kedia Page cooking Capocollo Deer Sliders; Third Place – Bragg Lands Pyromaniacs including Keith Black, Greg Bragg, Frank Barnett and John Lynch cooking Almond Edward Tenderloin.
The Alabama Army National Guard People’s Choice Award went to Bragg Lands Pyromaniacs, and the Best Presentation Award went to Bootlegg BBQ.
