Operation GameWatch

December 16, 2015

The Alabama Wildlife Federation’s Operation GameWatch Committee presented the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) with twenty-five (25) cell and non-cell based game cameras, as well as twenty (20) SD cards and over 250 batteries. Close to $5000 of our Operation GameWatch funds were used to purchase these cameras for the ADCNR Enforcement Division, which will aid officers in recording illegal activities.

“Technology has afforded us ways to make better use of our officers time. These cameras are a prime example where suspect areas can be surveilled without additional personnel, stated Chief Kevin Dodd, ADCNR.”

Game cameras are a game changer for law enforcement and will offer opportunities for more compelling evidence, accountability and performance. The cameras will be employed in a variety of ways to capture supporting evidence of wildlife resource crimes. Potentially impacting hunting and fishing private lands without permission; criminal activity at public access boat ramps; unlawful traps and hunting devices; criminal littering of deer carcasses or unlawful activities, disturbances or wildlife harassment on state owned sensitive habitat areas (bat caves, endangered mussel beds, protected historical sites ,etc).

“AWF values our long-standing partnership with ADCNR, and it was a privilege to be able to provide these tools that could help effectively prosecute violators of wildlife resource crimes, said Tim L. Gothard, AWF Executive Director. This partnership is a natural fit, and we share a commitment to the outdoors and striking the balance between use, management, and protection of Alabama’s natural resources."
