Wildlife Management for Alabama Agriscience Teachers
Date: June 10-12
Location: AWF Headquarters at Lanark (just 10 miles north of Montgomery)

During this workshop, a variety of topics will be discussed including the history of wildlife management, population dynamics, managing wildlife habitat, non-native invasive species, and much more. Educators will learn about current wildlife management strategies including new scientific research while participating in field trips, hands-on activities, and wildlife management discussions.
Discovering Our Heritage through the Outdoors
Date: June 16-19, 2008
Location: AWF Headquarters at Lanark (just 10 miles north of Montgomery)

This workshop is perfect for educators who wish to teach the Alabama Course of Study objectives using conservation education activities found in the Discovering Our Heritage curriculum. Educators will participate in field trips, hands-on activities, and pertinent discussions that explore the importance of Alabama’s forests, wildlife, and related natural resources. Participants will also receive training in Project WILD, Project Aquatic WILD, Project Learning Tree, Legacy Activity Guides, Discovering Alabama videos, and more.
Discovering Alabama’s Woodlands
Date: June 24-26, 2008
Location: AWF’s Headquarters at Lanark (just 10 miles north of Montgomery)
This workshop will be especially beneficial to educators currently developing an outdoor classroom area at their school as topics such as plant identification, animal tracking boxes, nature trails, and other potential learning stations topics will be covered. Participants will learn about Alabama’s various woodland ecosystems, including their forest plants and wildlife as well as the influence they have had on our state’s development from a cultural and economic perspective.
Discovering Alabama’s Birds & Butterflies - THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL
Date: July 15-16, 2008
Location: AWF’s Headquarters at Lanark (just 10 miles north of Montgomery)
This workshop will be especially beneficial to educators currently developing an outdoor classroom area at their school and would like to include a butterfly garden, bird feeding areas, nesting boxes, or other learning stations that focus on birds and butterflies. Participants will learn how to identify some of the more common species of birds and butterflies and how to attract them onto school property for easy viewing by the children. |
