Discovering Our Heritage (DOH) Program – The DOH program organizes existing environmental education
activities into a structured, comprehensive format and provides pre-planned lessons that guide the teacher
throughout the scholastic year. The teacher can manipulate this program so that it conforms with his/her
pre-existing lesson plans and projects.
Outdoor Classroom Seed Activities (OC) Program – Teachers can utilize these activities with their students in their outdoor classroom sites to study Alabama’s wildlife and natural resources. The activities can be downloaded from our website for FREE.
Ireland Youth Wildlife Art Contest The AWF Youth Art Contest recognizes the outstanding artistic abilities of Alabama's students, while increasing students' knowledge and awareness of wildlife and wildlife habitat in Alabama.
Tree Seedling Giveaway Schools enrolled in the Alabama Outdoor Classroom program receive free tree seedlings each spring through a partnership with the Alabama Forestry Commission. Note: Seedling orders are taken each November.
Outdoor Classroom Grants – The purpose of the AWF’s Outdoor Classroom Grant Program is to provide financial assistance and faculty support to schools who wish to create sustainable wildlife habitats and effective outdoor classroom sites on their school grounds using specific directed study opportunities.
Ponds for Kids (PFK) Program – The PFK program provides free technical assistance for schools enrolled in the outdoor classroom program who would like to develop an aquatic studies component for their outdoor classroom site.
Conservation Ed Articles – A wide variety of conservation education articles can be found on our website with important topics ranging from nature deficit disorder to outdoor classroom planning.
Conservation Ed E-Newsletter – Each month we send out an electronic newsletter through email that includes helpful information on conservation education resources, activities, grants, and much more. To sign up for a free copy of the newsletter, scroll to the bottom of the page and type in the email address where you’d like to receive the newsletter. Be sure to click the “Special eNewsletter for Educators” box under “Your Interests”.
Conservation Ed Search Engine – COMING SOON! We are currently working to correlate all Project WILD, Project Aquatic WILD, and Project WET activities to the Alabama Course of Study, and then provide the correlations on-line using a free search engine.
Lanark Field Days – Our NEW Lanark Field Days provide fun and exciting, customized field trip opportunities for students in grades K-12 that address the Alabama Course of Study Objectives through a multi-disciplinary approach. The field trips take place at Lanark, headquarters for the Alabama Wildlife Federation and the new Alabama Nature Center, which includes 350 acres of striking forests, fields, streams, wetlands, and ponds that are traversed by five miles of boardwalks and trails.
Alabama Outdoor Classroom (OC) Program – The OC program provides technical and organizational assistance
for schools who wish to create an effective, sustainable outdoor classroom site on their school grounds.

Teacher Workshops – The AWF hosts workshops for teachers who would like to implement the DOH and OC programs at their school. These workshops provide important information on how to integrate conservation education into the classroom.
